Antalya State Symphony Orchestra to be conducted by Ali Rahbari

Iranian veteran composer and conductor Ali (Alexander) Rahbari has been invited by Antalya State Symphony Orchestra to conduct a repertoire at the amphitheater of Aspendos, an ancient Greco-Roman site in Turkey’s Antalya Province.

The concert is slated for March 24, starting at 8:30 pm. Rahbari, 69, will conduct a program featuring German musician Gustav Rivinius on the cello.

Rivinius, 52, was winner of First Prize or Gold Medal in cello section of the 1990 International Tchaikovsky Competition, a classical-music contest held every four years in Moscow.

The repertoire includes pieces by Russian composer of the late-Romantic period Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) and German composer and pianist Johannes Brahms (1833-1897).

The compositions are Andante Cantabile, the second movement of Tchaikovsky’s String No. 1; his Variations on a Rococo Theme; and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 in E minor, his last symphonic composition.
